Vietnamese New Year Tet Festival

For an authentic New Year experience that eschews the commercial it's hard to beat the Vietnamese Tet (Lunar New Year) celebrations held at the Rocklea Showgrounds. For the Vietnamese community this is the biggest and most sacred festival on their calendar. Featuring an open air stage, a retro style side show alley and petting zoo and a whole host of delicious cheap hawker stalls selling pork ball and chicken skewers, fried rice, beef in betel leaves, coconut jelly and coconut pandan waffles, dragonfruit and sugar cane juice, the main concession to the handful of Western attendees is a burger stand and a VB tent. The standout for food though is the pho tent, a large marquee where impeccably dressed Vietnamese families, some in traditional costume sit at long white clothed tables and partake in generous bowls of fabulous pho before heading off to the main outdoor stage to watch the dragon dance and performers from the range of local Asian and Islander cultures perform under the stars.

Easterfest is a three-day national music festival at Easter held in the beautiful Southern Queensland Country regional city, Toowoomba. It is one of Australia's largest drug and alcohol free ticketed precinct in Australia. Brookfield Show

The biggest little show in the country! Show activities begin on Thursday before the show when the art, photography, needlework and woodwork competitions reveal their winners. Show Friday is known as District Day because thehorse events are limited to local riders, horses and owners. The action winds up in Sideshow Alley after school Friday afternoon with a rodeo, live music in the Happy Hour Bar and the opening of the Carnival rides. The Paniyiri Greek Festival is an annual kaleidoscopic cultural explosion legendary with over 50,000 Greeks and honorary Greeks flocking to Musgrave Park, South Brisbane for this magnetic festival. Ormeau Fair

The Annual Ormeau Lions Fair is on again this year, and known as the Northern Gold Coast's Mini Ekka, it attracts thousands of people daily with stacks of free entertainment on two stages over both days of August 10th & 11th.
